Feeding children is based on two principles:

1- First principle

Parents push the child to eat something while forbidding him to eat something else. For example, parents try to accustom their child to eat vegetables, while preventing him as much as possible from eating sweet food.

Children feel the need to eat sweet food. In order not to develop the habit of eating this food, parents must provide foods that do not have a special taste for the child, such as vegetables.

2- The second principle

It is based on children showing parents that they want to eat something. For example, they express a desire for what their parents eat, as the parents believe that the child has reached the stage where he has become interested in solid food.

The gradient is very important

The process of exposing children to food is a gradual process. A child up to six months old eats only their mother’s milk. This milk contains vitamins and antibodies that help build his immune system.

If during this period you also want to introduce the child to other types of food, you can give him porridge, such as cornmeal porridge and rice porridge.

6 months later

After the age of six months, the child should be given soup. These should be ground free of spices and without solids. Food must be served to him at a fixed time, in order to get used to fixed eating hours.

After exposing him to soup, he begins to be exposed to meat, vegetables, and fruits, and this is in parallel with the emergence of his first teeth. Of course, food should be soft, cooked, and cut into very small pieces, so he can swallow it.

Between 9-12 months

Between the ninth and twelfth months, the child is exposed to foods that will build his sense of taste. It is important to expose him to different tastes so that in the future he knows what to take and what to refuse.

Among the foods that he must be exposed to in that period are unsweetened dairy products, more solid soups, bread, cheese with more than 5%, and eggs.

However, the child at this age should not be exposed to honey, drinking milk, fish, tea, and various juices.

Over time, and as he grows up, it is possible to expose him to more types of food and drink, so that he himself can choose what to eat.
